Interceptor 3 Tyres

Interceptor, SP, FF

by Interceptor3 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:32 am

Hi all
Looking for some rubber for my Interceptor 3 standard alloys. It has some ancient Dunlop Grand Prix on it at the moment that are knackered. They are 205/65/15 from memory. I know a lot of people seem to use Pirelli P4000 but the tyre shop I spoke to today did not have anything close in the P4000 listed in his book. Are they discontinued? What are the alternatives? What is the correct tyre size for my car?

Hi! Nigel,

I have tyres from the USA they are Mastercraft A/S IV P225/70R15 thin white walls, they are I think a good looking tyre which sits well on the original alloys, they seem to handle well however I am not a fast driver. They were source through a Victorian company by Classic Auto Metal / TAS when the car was being restored, I am sure Dean will no who as he uses the same company for his own cars.
cheers

nigel 205/65x15 are very common tyres they come in all brands and start from about $85.00 t0 over $400.00 depending on the brand. speedrating has to be V or above. you also can put on some 215/60x15 on they are the same diameter (keeps you speedo right) but have wider tread (more rubber on the road and look better.

Hi swany, Do you remember how much these tyres were approximately? I love the look and have thought about putting w/w on my Jensens and HSVs.

205 70 15 are the correct OEM size I believe. 225 65 15 fit and in my opinion look better. The Pirellis should be available given we can get them here tho' NZ is a backwater ......

Old thread :)

Correct, 205/65/15 is not the correct size. I read the only two cars that came with the OE size was the Interceptor and one model Jag, hence the rarity of the proper size. P4000 get made in batches now and then, but are hard to get. No tyre shop I spoke to had anything to suit. At least nothing with a suitable tread and speed/load rating. Even if you don't drive at the speed the tyre is rated for, your insurance company will refuse a claim if your tyres are not sufficient.

Don't need to worry about now I have these anyhow:

Nigel, Like the new wheels. How you getting on with them?

Far more tyre choice with these wheels and really when on the car, don't look out of place..

That's it. Factory styling. Yet they still look surprisingly modern which is a testament to the original design.

Not fitted them to my car yet though. Still work needing doing to it before I get worried about the wheels. :(
