Another Jensen to Tasmania

by tasti » Wed Jul 15, 2015 10:24 am

Hi guys after a long period without a Jensen in the family I bit the bullet and bought another, it's a MK2 C-V8.
It has been off the road since the late 80's and needs a fair bit of work but that is now underway and hopefully will be on the road before the end of the year.
The car does have some interesting history as it was a special order for a 60's singer called Susan Maughan. Susan and the car feature in a photo in front of the Jensen factory when the car was new, I will try to upload it.
I am looking forward to driving the car and meeting other owners.
Cheers
Stu.

Again congrats Stuart, can't wait to see the car.

Susan Maughan on Wikipedia

Her original recording of Bobby's Girl which probably paid for the car, and a later live performance of the song.

Also gets a mention here, here, and here.

And Stuart, you also now need to buy this.

Thanks Nige,

I will have to order one.

My brother gave me a gigantic canvas print of the photo taken in front of the Jensen factory. After heated negotiations with my wife it was finally hung in the office, I wanted it in the front entrance and she wanted it in the garage... we reached a compromise.
I am keen to chase up as much history on the car as I can and would love to write to Susan Maughan to ask her what memories she may have of the car and the options that she had ordered for it but so far I have been unable to find out much about her except that she is still alive and is about 77. I might have to join a few 1960's type music forums or similar. If their are any music sleuths that feel they could assist please let me know.

Cheers

That is fantastic Stu, it is amazing there are copies of the photo about that are high enough resolution to make a large print from?

Well worth trying to track her down. I managed to track down my car's original owner, at least his business... he had died a few years before. :( Amazingly there was an employee in the firm who could remember when he got the car in 1972. That is a long term employee right there.

No it is a problem with the forum theme - to won't scale the images down to fit nor let you scroll sideways, so if the image is large and you are on a phone or small screen it does not work. :(

I do need to do something about upgrading this to a mobile friendly theme.

You do have some extra code in there that is unnecessary though.
